People ask me why I now prefer swimming in the sea. One reason - yesterday the rip current so strong the skin across my knees felt like a rippling flag. Others : seeing R he red flags out, boiling crashing waves, breaks, tide and things in water - seaweed, rocks, sand suspended, wind, rising and falling amplitude and intervals, dappled light of clouds and mist, little seals from time to time, walking up the shingle beaches in near gale force winds... So different from the pool at Anderson Hills swimming club where many youthful summers were spent - clear, flat, chlorinated and 25m.
