JFB
In recent years the art of turntablism has spun off in myriad new directions, with techniques such as video scratching and instant sample creation representing a dramatic sea-change for the discipline. Few artists have been further to the fore of these fresh developments than Brighton's JFB, a scratch DJ and party starter extraordinaire who won the UK DMC Championship in 2007.

Catch him alongside regular collaborator Beardyman at one of their legendary Battlejam events, and you'll bear witness to spectacular improvisational skills melded to ultra-cutting edge technology. When Beardy drops a rhyme, it can be instantly sampled and scratched into new forms by the DJ, who's also capable of throwing random crowd banter, smatterings of live musicianship and even video footage of the audience into the mix.

Yet unlike many turntablists, JFB also knows when to stop beatjuggling and start dropping bombs - ultimately, it's all about making the people dance. Many of the tunes you'll hear him spin will be his own recordings on labels like Sludge, Hospital or One Eye Records. This is an artist who's fully immersed in bass culture, and just as happy spinning hip-hop or jungle as he is breakbeat and dubstep. Allow him free reign to do his thing with a full range of equipment at his command, and the results will be utterly groundbreaking, but set him loose on two turntables and a decent scratch mixer, and the boy will set about producing results that are just as jaw-dropping.See more

PLEASE READ THIS: An Open Letter In Support of The Melbourne Underground Film Festival by Jack Sargeant http://tinyurl.com/35c5z7r re: Bruce LaBruce

please read this:
http://ideafix7.wordpress.com/2010/11/12/an-open-letter-in-support-of-the-mel...

please add your support to this -
...........................................................
also i added this:

Bruce LaBruce is an internationally known filmmaker and however
controversial, his work is not overtly prurient nor purely
pornography.

I have screened most if not all of LaBruce's films at my cinemas in
the USA - in Cincinnati - where they didn't blink an eyelid - the same
city that raided Mapplethorpe and in the UK. if Cincinnati can stand
"No Skin off My Ass" then "LA Zombie" surely in 2010 is acceptable to
play to an audience that CHOOSES to be there.

This case seems tragic as Richard Wolstencroft is an internationally
recognized curator and champion of film known well beyond the greater
Melbourne area. It saddens me that he faces such diabolical treatment
from clearly ill-informed "law" officers.

This provincial and deeply embarrassing raid by the local police will
only serve to highlight their lack of knowledge about this director
and seemingly the international standing and importance of the
Melbourne Underground Film Festival.

Please know that this raid will be seen around the world as backward,
ill-informed, outrageous and anti-cultural. If the Melbourne police
want to stand for this
and it should be said - homophobic - then this is the perfect
marketing tool for Melbourne, Inc.

I urge the local officials to stop the harassment of Richard
Wolstencroft and the Melbourne Underground Film Festival.

Review: The Curlew Restaurant in Bodiam, East Sussex

I was alerted to The Curlew - not by ravenous foodie locals - but by a national reviewer who said the Jacob's ladder was so good he wanted it framed and put by his bedside.

I live in Sussex part of the week, London the rest and for the last year or so - The Curlew has been part of my life. For our part of east East Sussex - there isn't the choices one would think there would be. And this for me, and my house guests down from London have become our favourite place - along with our breakfasts at the Woosley and lunch at Sketch Lecture room - this little place is up there with the best.

Yesterday, after pike fishing at Darwell Reservoir and mushroom foraging - we decided as the almost cinematic downpours chased us off the lake early to take refuge at the Curlew...So we called, and by chance, they could squeeze us in. They always try to do their best - which alot of places won't.

They bring fresh bread right to the table - and this time with chef Neil's own made raisins - kind of nuts with drippings - but it works. Its the only place I'd guess in the world tonight you'd get homemade fruit bread [dripping] with herb infused dripping?  note: Neil's also just done a stint at Noma in Copenhagen which apparently was nuts. Let him tell you about it.

But as Noma is now considered the world's no. 1 restaurant, so it shows their ambition. Its also worth noting that the Curlew's executive chef
Graham Garrett
is the resident of the nearby Michelin starred West house was recently featured as one of Britain's best restaurants and is definitely worth a visit [if you can get a table as its booked up months in advance.]

So today - we stuck with our favourites - The heavenly cheese souffle - shared between me and Sophie and then I had the Jacob's ladder - pictured - and Sophie had the Romney marsh lamb - 3 ways. I cannot say how good this was but I took out my calculator and in 15,542 days of living i think i can say I haven't had a better bit of meat than this one...

The Yorkshire pudding out of this world and just the perfect thing for a rainy Sussex day. I can't say how gorgeous the Jacob's ladder is and really it is one of the finest things I've had this or any year... [at supper we calculated perhaps the best tasting piece of meat in 15,452 days]

I always love coming "home" to the Curlew and i can't recommend this place enough.
