The £6 million dollar question - 6music or no 6music

There has been widespread dismay across the UK music scene today with the seeming announcement of the almost certain termination of digital broadcaster 6music.

Interestingly, it was only a handful of stations that in the recent Radjar surveys improved listening numbers in the digital spektrum.

But yet it seems earmarked for termination.

The cost of 6music is about £6 million per year or equivalent to presenter Jonathan Ross' yearly wage.

In percentage terms it comprises only about .0012% of the BBC's annual spend of around £4 billion pounds.

This means it's axeing is more of a sybolic sacrifice, possibly a pre- concession to the incoming Tory administration in May, than for any substantive bugetary reason.

I urge you to make your protest heard directly to the BBC and to it's directors. It is a public entity and is accountable to it's fee payers.

Please do join the protest group on facebook and again use the BBC website to register your complaint.

For a comparison, the 51-member winter olympic contingent from the united kingdom cost £6million.
