Jeffrey Louis Reed: BEAR BONES
solo exhibition
Exhibition continues until 4th May 2013 Gallery opening times: Thursday - Saturday 2-6pm
or by appointment Herrick Gallery is proud to present a solo exhibition of new work by Jeffrey Louis Reed. Artist by day, composer & DJ by night; swimmer, searcher, visionary, alien and alchemist. At the beating heart of BEAR BONES a large cartoon like polar bear proudly holds aloft a bony spinal column, as though triumphantly dangling a human hunting trophy. Other bare and blood red painted bones dangle in cabinets and cases, haunting and seductive mortal treasure, often entwined as dancing limbs frozen in time as the music stopped. This exhibition also features Jeffrey’s signature clusters of ghostly black and white painted heads emblazoned across vintage artifacts including two enormous Chinese scrolls and a collection of curiosity boxes. Jeffrey was born in the US and has lived and worked in New York, Paris, Barcelona and London. He composes classical piano music, is a founder of Audio Sushi and is best known as Disastronaut, travelling the world to DJ in many of the world's leading clubs, catwalk shows and festivals. Time Out named him as one of best resident DJs in London, most recently bringing Grandmaster Flash and Mike Skinner to play his regular night at the Dogstar, Brixton. He lives in Hastings with music and art studios overlooking the sea. An extremely prolific artist, he is much in demand with galleries and collectors and this year has exhibitions in London, Sussex, Paris and Tokyo.
