TONIGHT
The Dogstar + Audiosushi.com presents AUDIO SUSHI AT The Dogstar Brixton on SATURDAYS in May and June, 2011
7.30pm-4am; FREE before 11pm, £5 after. residents: Jeffrey Disaster [disastronaut] + Special Guests what: AUDIO SUSHI Now entering its 7th or 8th year - who knows really? - Audio Sushi is
a long runner... blurred into the very modest confines of the Dogstar
- which is unbelievably 16 now - and still have teenage riots on a
weekly basis it seems - and at 9pm on any given Saturday night you
couldn't guess that in 3 or 4 hours there would be such an abandoned free form party - people
dancing on whatever they could find - to the alarm of the managers -
people swinging on the chandeliers and the rest. Now We love djs who play
long sets - and sometimes - we get invites for Djs who play 6, 7 or
yes even 8 hour sets like its the 2nd coming... Well, modestly and quite tenaciously -
Jeffrey Audio Sushi / Disastronaut - plays this almost every week...
running through a near Million track record library - and has just
added Arthur Baker's ultra rare funk soul disco collection - numbering
nearly 7,500 of the rarest 12"s on earth. But as the audience wants Candi Stanton,
Rihanna, pop divas, and bass hits - the mix becomes a candy coated
confectionery of requests - which he gladly plays - often though in remixed / re
edited forms - and mixes it with several decades of party music - in
a non stop full on hands in the air party mix - he perhaps should trademark :) as
it has had the dance floor roadblocked every week since day 1.
Hot Chip, Massive Attack, Stereo MCs, The Specials, Dreadzone, Jerry
Dammers among others have guested recently - so there always are
guests ... some announced - some not - to take things up a notch... but it ends up
being a reliable and rather good night - whomever is at the controls. The Sounds - free form good time party anthems that Range from
vintage Reggae, dubstep - or whatever step you call it, slightly
bonkers mashups, blog and catwalk house, experimental robotic pop and
all out chart action shamelessly mixed for maximum impact.
