What do you think? Disastronaut
Are you for or against live streaming and broadcasting of DJ sets and concerts from clubs or concert venues over the internet and why ?
I am thrilled that live sets and DJ sets are broadcast over the internet and I’ve been a champion of new technology in nightlife for years - with blogs, postings, fan sites, myspace and my company Audio Sushi. I am for it [ and I would say generally all of the artists that I push ] really appreciate the opportunity to connect to a worldwide audience; to communicate in a matter of seconds rather in a matter of months what is happening in a particular city, neighborhood or country and pick up on new acts, sounds and trends. For years I’ve used the Internet to find new music, to make contact with people I am geographically distant from also to keep up with friends and fans around the world. It gives me a chance to get certain tracks that are amazing but perhaps without UK distribution an airing, as well as letting other DJs, producers, A&R and club owners what I do - so it helps the business.
For an artist to object to sets being broadcast I think would be shortsighted and also against the wave of contemporary music practice. Whether it be on the Radio, on the internet or in the club - I am always happy to be heard, in fact, that’s why I do it - and if I can go from playing to 100,000 a month to millions a month the prospect is tantalizing. DJs and Artists have no real problem with playing on Analogue radio I don’t see how the Internet model is any different except it has a potentially more focused audience and a much different impact. My only concern is that the broadcast and internet companies treat the artists and their intellectual properties with respect and know their value.
